Caixa Alfama 2016

For the fourth time, in one of the most characteristic districts of Lisbon, the Caixa Alfama festival was held.

The Fado festival featured big names such as Carminho, Marco Rodrigues, Gisela João Ricardo Ribeiro, Aldina Duarte, Raquel Tavares, among many others.

The Caixa Alfama isn't only a festival, but an experience. For those who don't know the neighborhood, it is easy to get lost in the alleyways - which is also part of this experience - and the fado, elevated to Intangible Heritage of Humanity a few years ago, is heard and felt at every corner. But Fado isn't for everyone. Fado is a ritual - said Raquel Tavares, who showed how she takes Fado very seriously.

However, the festival also has less satisfactory points. Except for the Caixa Stage, the remaining stages have little space and many had to be content to listen to the artists outside. In the Marco Rodrigues's show, for example, the Cultural Center Dr. Magalhães Lima was small even for those who managed to enter and dozens of people couldn't had that opportunity.

But don't think because of that you will miss the Fado. On the contrary. There is a wide variety of stages and even at the windows you will hear the sound of the Portuguese guitar.

Raquel Tavares and Carminho were the artists with the highest affluence. The last one, one of the most recognized inside and outside our country, charmed the audience with his voice, singing even without the microphone aid and in those minutes didn't hear a sound in addition to the melody of your voice at the Caixa stage. Raquel Tavares delighted those present with her Fado, a little more melancholy, and took the opportunity to honor those who made the difference in his path as singer and her life.

Fado may not be for everyone but for those who go to the Caixa Alfama, Fado belongs to everyone!
